personal finances help

'When I married Donna, I could get both hands around her waist,' said my husband's grandfather. Pointing at his full-figured wife, he boasted, 'Now look how much I got. That's what I call an investment!' — Katherine Eby, via Reader's Digest.com

In essence, that funny anecdote is right. Of course it doesn't sound very flattering to Katherine's grandmother-in-law, but that's exactly what investment is all about: making sure that your accounts and net worth grow bigger over time.

Investment is that exercise of putting money in a financial account, in your business, in a friend's business, or even in some other companies' business, for the pursuit of growing one's money. Investment is an effort to get one's money to "grow."

Investment works on the principle of "compounded interest." Interest that is added to your principal, or initial investment, itself gets to earn interest. So if you've initially invested $200, at the interest rate of 2.5%, at the maturity term of one month, you'll be earning $5 at the end of that month. If you renew the term of your money, your $205 will then earn $5.13 ($5.125) when another month is over. Certificates of deposit accounts or time deposits work exactly like this.

On the other hand, mutual funds work on the principle of snowballed profits. Mutual funds are as good as stocks and bonds, only you don't manage them yourself. Rather, trained financial experts are hired to manage your money. To invest in mutual funds, you can look into a broker that charges low commissions and check out their offerings.

Basic Tips For Investing In A Business

Investments could also mean those things you purchase or put money in, in order to further your business. Most people take additional studies in order to get the credentials needed to help them advance in their chosen careers. Other people invest in machinery, gadgets and equipment in order to make their lives easier. Then, most businesses invest in people which make up their workforce — their much-needed manpower.

Here are three informal rules of thumb by which you can measure your investments and purchases:

The Asian Development Bank has roped in the European Investment Bank to invest in large-scale solar power plants in India. The ADB is committed to arrange finances for India’s ambitious National Solar Mission projects.

The Asian Development Bank has been working closely with many Asian countries to provide them financial, technical and policy-related support for expanding solar energy infrastructure. The ADB is playing an active role in India to make solar energy more popular. In addition to the European Investment Bank, the ADB has also attracted funding from the US Import-Export Bank and Germany’s KWF.

Under the National Solar Mission, India plans to install 20,000 MW solar-based power generation capacity by 2022. The current install capacity is a dismal 14 MW. The 20,000 MW capacity also includes the off-grid rural power plants. In order to rapidly increase the installed capacity the Indian government has announced two massive solar farm projects, one each in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Both these states are blessed with substantially high solar radiation resource and also have large areas of unused lands due to lower agricultural land use. Rajasthan has the vast Thar desert while Gujarat has vast wastelands in the west. Gujarat has set aside 2,500 hectare for a 1,000 MW plant while Rajasthan has set aside 8,000 hectare for a 3,000 MW plant. Construction of these plants is expected to start after 2013, that is, during the second phase of the National Solar Mission.

The ADB is also supporting the project developers who intend to set up power plants during the first phase. The first phase aims at installing 1,1o0 MW by 2013; ADB will support 350 MW of these installations. The smaller power plants have been provided with 50 percent loan guarantees and project developers will also provided direct loans.

The Asian Development Bank has been working closely with several ministries of the Indian government to devise overall policies and logistical support mechanism in order to make the solar energy projects commercially viable. The bank would also provide capital grants to cover up the difference between the cost of solar power generation and the average cost of generation from conventional sources.

Such collaborations with international funding agencies help in bridging the financial gap that exists for any new renewable energy technologies. In the absence of a clear agreement on international funding as part of an international climate change treaty, such partnerships with European and American banks helps in the quick implementation of these clean technology projects in the developing countries.

With how hard everything is getting to be these days, people often ask each other about managing personal finances. We already know that there are a ton of ways to go about this. We also know that anybody that isn't careful may end up in a tighter situation than they already are. Even beyond that, we know that there are scams that promise a lot out there, and even a lot of the options that are not scams can be rather risky, but what not everybody has caught on to yet is the fact that working on some of these plans can be very beneficial to your financial situation.

The first things that you absolutely have to consider are long term goals that you may have. Most people live in the day to day expenses without even truly thinking about what will happen when they have kids who need to go to college, or needing a new car, or even their retirement. The thought seems to be that they will all work themselves out with time, but that isn't really true.

Next you must look at your priorities. What goals do you want to happen fast, and what goals do you have time to accomplish. The point behind this financial safety net is to have the money you need to do what is going to happen in the future.

If you have a young child who you want to be able to pay for to go to school so that they won't have to go through being in debt, then you should focus on their college funds. Not only should you have college funds set aside and building, but you also have funds for the hospital, and braces, and anything else that may happen that could cause you to dip into their college funds. If you don't end up needing these funds for them, then you will have some extra money that you can put into other funds, or enjoy then.

After you have all of that straightened out, you can begin your plans. During the planning process you are just setting an outline of what you plan to achieve and how you plan to get there. In reality, you will find that things often go wrong and set you back a little. For example, there is a good possibility that some of your funds will conflict with each other. When this happens, it doesn't mean that you should just give up on one of them. When this happens you need to take a step back and decide which one needs the most attention the fastest, and then decide on how much extra money that one will get from reducing the other, you may end up reducing a few of them to make it work

As you can see there are many reasons for managing your finances and it isn't any where near as difficult as everybody makes it out to be.
